    In the few states that allow "fusion," third party endorsements are often the only way some candidates can get elected.

    In South Carolina, for example, you can be Santa Claus and still lose to a Republican, even if that Republican is Son of Satan, and simply because many here won't vote Dem under any circumstance.

    Having your name appear twice on the ballots, though - that second appearance being for the 3rd party - can be a big help, because it gives those GOP-favoring voters an avenue to support the Dem without pushing the Dem button.

    It works, too - candidates endorsed by the progressive Working Families Party in SC get 12 percent of their total votes from that 3rd party nomination. and get the wins, too.

      of a deep red state. I live in Utah. Thank you for the update, I will remove my hr.

      I'm not the font of all wisdom but IMO a diary about the fusion idea, where opinions are welcomed to be tossed around would get a more positive reception.

      No "blurb" about another party, leave it out. You could mention, but nothing that appears to be an endorsement.
