    way of obtaining that evidence. They can conduct surveillance under a blanket "Just trust us" ruling.

    The PATRIOT act allows anyone with a secret warrant to find out who borrows what books from what libraries and when. Libraries are, at the same time, prohibited by federal law from revealing anything about this breach of privacy, to anyone. The same law applies to booksellers. Efforts by librarians and booksellers to amend the law have been ongoing since 2001.

    Congress has always argued that a) They won't do it very much b)it will all be under strict judicial review and c)Just trust us, intelligence agencies won't do anything bad with this crazy amount of power we've handed them, we promise.

      in point of fact the NSA and the entire adminstration are tripping over themselves right now to justify what they are doing and to show the worth of the programs in question
