  •  i'm here for the snark (19+ / 0-)

and the nonpolitical groups. They make it easy to find what I want to read, and I can avoid the wrecklist most days. the politics part bore me now. I still consider the 2006 election to be a blip in the grand scheme of things, buoyed along by anti-Bush sentiment.

not sure what things the diarist got right. "Progressives" have lots of options on the internet to organize, if they so choose. I'm still waiting for that general strike and for them to stop "pushing that overton window." Also, Kos banning people really doesn't hurt the site at all. Daily Kos seem to move right along without them, and they go elsewhere to whine on the internet. 8 years and counting for me; it is as it's always been and these diaries are always a source of amusement for me.

as for helping the party? "Progressives" don't have any interest in school boards, local elections and the like (and this diarist says so downthread). That's also another thing that's been pretty obvious to me for the last decade or so. So, shrug, whatever YOU think he got right, I rather don't. The diary's just a whiny "woe is me" pity party by someone who's found a better niche at saying "COME BAN ME YAAAYY" than stopping the GOP or whatever. As an aside I don't expect to pick up too many seats in 2014. No polls indicate that we will, and I'm already seeing indications "Progressives" will stay home.

also, this site isn't the party, so I'm not sure what the diarist is whining about.

But the diarist said he was part of OFA, so good for him! I hope that is far more rewarding to him then whining about getting banned when there are liberal and progressive sites with a far larger audience.

ah well, if you don't pay attention to the Wreck List, you wouldn't get it anyway ;)

Well? If this "Progressive" President would quit carrying on with the shit Bush the Usurper started--after he swore up and down that wasn't going to be the case--perhaps the Democratic Party wouldn't have this problem.

These party wounds are entirely self-inflicted. Talk about whining...

        •  Oh, I see! Then you won't be needing them anymore? (2+ / 0-)

Y'all keep saying that--and then when it comes time to vote, the demanding and the petulant foot-stomping for them to "join you for the Good of The Country".

On the other hand, if you really mean that, why don't you just write a diary and tell them? I'm sure that will be so unifying...

      •  btw, I do get it. (5+ / 0-)

I just don't find "it" to be at the top of my list of Things That are Wrong.

like I said, 8 years and counting. Also, compaining about the often unreadable wrecklist is another perennial complaint and whine, but like I said there's far better stuff to read, even here. It helps that Community Spotlight is ABOVE the wrecklist. That's where I always find the site's best writing. The Wreck List, not so much.

I mean it's telling. My worst writing (Outrage Of The Day, for example) makes the wreck list. My best generally does not. People rec up pushbutton issues and rarely substance. That's another thing that's been constant for much of the site's life. They can rec what they want though---i'm just glad there are options to avoid it if I want to. That said, even THAT hasn't harmed neither the Democratic Party or "Progressives" or the site.

lastly, if "progressives" stay home; at least they'll have something to protest about when no "progressive" legislation goes their way. So staying home could really work out for them.

        •  But you won't, will you? (0+ / 0-)
at least they'll have something to protest about
You won't be able to open your mouth and complain about losing elections, ever, if you drive them away yourself.

          •  since i'm not a party official (4+ / 0-)

I really can't drive anyone away, can I? If someone reading this goes "well, I'll never vote Dem now!" I don't consider that to be my problem. I suspect they'd never vote Dem anyway which is also not my problem.

It's also not this site's problem either.

            •  Sure it is (0+ / 0-)
It's also not this site's problem either.
If this site's mission is to "elect more and better Democrats", then the site will fail if its hardcore party faithful openly castigate some of its more progressive members, here and elsewhere, and then lose the midterms or the next general.

And you still won't be able to complain, ever, about having driven them away, whether you're a "party official" or not. Because this attitude is precisely why "Progressives" have a big problem with today's Democratic Party:

not like they're the base anyway.
When that kind of idiotic fishbowl purity fails your politics, and a blog specific to your politics--don't ever let anyone catch you complaining if you helped it fail. Because you will--rightly--get laughed out of the room.

              •  i hope we've amused each other this morning. (4+ / 0-)

                anyway, piece by piece:

If this site's mission is to "elect more and better Democrats", then the site will fail if its hardcore party faithful openly castigate some of its more progressive members, here and elsewhere, and then lose the midterms or the next general.
Perhaps, but there are larger party constituencies than "progressives" and they increasingly turn out. So the effect may end up being close to zero. Or not. At a year out, I really don't know (and I generally won't care until after August 2014).
And you still won't be able to complain, ever, about having driven them away, whether you're a "party official" or not. Because this attitude is precisely why "Progressives" have a big problem with today's Democratic Party:
I don't complain because I don't care. This is not something I take all that seriously. Once again, if some person reads this exchange and decides "well, that person said blahdablahdablah therefore I'm not going to vote at all next fall that'll show them" it isn't my problem. I'm a nobody. On a website. They chose to do that. I didn't choose it for them. I can say with certainty that no one's words here have ever influenced my vote.

hey, it's a big tent, but until the Democratic Party actually starts paying me I'm not going to consider it my problem if someone decides not to vote Dem because I might not care. Because it really isn't.

When that kind of idiotic fishbowl purity fails your politics, and a blog specific to your politics--don't ever let anyone catch you complaining if you helped it fail. Because you will--rightly--get laughed out of the room.
I, again, don't complain, because it is not my problem. Also, this blog isn't specific to my politics. It's not even close. For one thing, this site hasn't historically done very much to address issues in the black community. We do have our own subgroup here though that does wonders and I'm glad for that but 8 years on daily kos have shown me that subconsious racism is a bipartisan affair. I'm more interested in talking about that than worrying about votes.

Are you reacting to my statement that I'm seeing signs Progressives will stay home? That's an observation, not a complaint. I find this all terribly amusing today as 1, that the diarist thinks this site is publically owned by its members (it's not, and legally, that fact is on Marko's side) and 2, that people actually think I take this seriously.

                •  You didn't even read (0+ / 0-)

because otherwise, you simply wouldn't have asked what may have prompted such a challenge.

not like they're the base anyway.
Yeah, that's an observation, too, but it's not terribly astute. It seems more like wishful thinking, IMO, but whatever.

For someone who doesn't take this seriously, you sure do put a lot of effort into it...

about DK so much it's scary. Particularly this paragraph:

I don't complain because I don't care. This is not something I take all that seriously. Once again, if some person reads this exchange and decides "well, that person said blahdablahdablah therefore I'm not going to vote at all next fall that'll show them" it isn't my problem. You wrote elsewhere that DK stopped being electorally relevant years ago. My timeline says late 2006 with Jim Webbs Senate victory. DK helped keep George Allen's 'Macaca' comment alive until Main Media picked it up. That and DK fundraising and organizing gets some credit for his razor-thin victory. This then gave the Democrats a majority in the Senate which was crucial in curtailing the worst of Bush/Cheney's lameduck administration.

Since then, not so much. My characterization of dailykos is that of an Alumni Association of all the College Young Democrats clubs of the last 50 years. And given the demographics of DK, a lot of it is skewed to the older end (raises hand).

There was only one joker in L.A. sensitive enough to wear that scent...and I had to find out who he was!

    •  no interest in school boards (3+ / 0-)

The fact is that progressives can't get anyone elected dogcatcher in many districts.

Once upon a time, we had a Farmer Labor party in this country.  A genuine political alliance between the folks doing the work of building the stuff we all use and the folks growing the food we all need to eat.

    •  I'd say there are progressives interested (12+ / 0-)

in local issues like the school board, county council, etc.

I'm one.  The difference is that I'm also a rarity in that those same progressives that are active locally could really give a rat's ass about coming to places like DKos.

Cake or DEATH? Oh, I'll have cake, please.
