are who they are going after, and this strategy for pro-lifers works.  People like my mother really struggled with Obama this round. Scared to death that the new health care act was going to force Catholic hospitals and doctors to perform abortions. Forget the kids of struggling families who would finally get care if that meant taking the life of even one yet-to-be-born. She hated Romney, but was really torn. It took all my strength to not tear into her after hearing her talk. Breathed deep and sought peace. She's 80.

But she's not alone -- right-wing Christians (who don't consider Catholics to be Christians) are right there with her in her thinking, for the most part. And many are women.

I get it. Abortion has become a more difficult issue for me now that I have children, but there was a time when I was young and poor and lacked much support or education from the old woman mentioned in the first paragraph, so made a choice and don't regret it. And I wouldn't want to create a world that leaves my children without choices.

That choice is complicated - way more complicated than the right makes it out to be. I believe these people (and my mother) can't get past that "cute baby - cute little kid" possibility and shut down to any other thinking or discussion - including what about providing birth control in the first place and what about creating a society that cares for its people - including for babies who stop being cute when they or their parents need food or health care, which can be right away. Or when those babies start thinking for themselves. That happens very early on.

women more pro-choice after going through pregnancy and labor.   I silenced an anti choicer by flipping the whole issue around: what does she think about women being forced to abort? Or sterilized without their permission/against their will?
Being forced to have C-Sections against their will?
      That made her think.
Frankly the pro choice movement has ceded too much ground to the antis by trying to appease them.
