    The biggest barrier to discovery of you, your habits and your activities remains the same as it was in the 1930's---whether it's worth someone's effort.  So far, it's pretty clear that aside from giving you the choices you think you want, the data isn't really used.

      in the 1940s it was easier, so much easier that we decided to set up an institution to keep files and dossiers on people because it was worth their while to have that kind of intelligence.

      Hoover was working with a friggin' slide rule and an abacus.

      Shit in the 60 and 70s the NSA probably had the total computing power of my 2005 Macbook.

      Today it's yottabytes and petaflops.

      This is used to pin down opponents of the State. Terrorism is the excuse.

      Give 'em the target and they'll get you the Megabyte or 3 that brings 'em down.
