  •  Apparently NC law strongly favors corporations (4+ / 0-)

As a reult of corporate negligence (it was also a hotel), a friend of mine was seriously injured during a trip to NC. Her home-state lawyers said that in any other state, she'd get a million dollar verdict, but in NC it was hopeless. They would not take the case.

Her NC lawyers advised against pursuing the case, but she persisted. Finally, after about four years of grief, including being interrogated by a hostile team of corporate lawyers about her sex life (WTF?), she recovered about half of her out of pocket medical expenses. Her lawyers were amazed she got that much.

If you travel to NC, watch your back. Apparently NC corporations don't face a lot of risk if they injure their customers.

    •  That's tort reform (0+ / 0-)

Tort reform means keeping people from suing. In Texas, if the hospital cuts off the wrong leg, you can't sue because no good lawyer will take the case and damages are capped. Conservative governance at work!

+++ The law is a weapon used to bludgeon us peasants into submission. It is not to be applied to the monied elite.
