    abortion is absolutely unthinkable.

But not because it is outlawed.

Because we have turned out health care system around and it doesnt mean going to the poor house if your child gets sick.

Because we have started programs that help single mothers find jobs.

Because we have grown the support system in a way that doesnt make having a child mean economic troubles.

Because we have advanced sex education to the point where it works.

The threat to our way of life comes from corporations, and the solution is to shrink corporations while freeing government from corporate control.

    •  But there will always be fetuses (0+ / 0-)

that don't develop properly and die in utero, or worse, in the fallopian tubes. Some will make it to birth and die minutes later because their brains aren't fully formed. These are WANTED pregnancies that go horribly wrong through no fault of the woman. Some pregnancies begin to adversely affect the health of the woman and need to be terminated lest both woman and fetus die.

The only way to deal with that is with abortion -- which is a standard medical procedure, or was until the religious freaks started getting their panties in a wad about women controlling their own sexuality.

There will ALWAYS be a need for abortion until human women don't reproduce the way we do now.

And there will always be women who, for whatever reason they have, do not want to become mothers and/or birth a child.

You can't take those decisions away no matter how good a society's health care and welfare systems may be. Not unless we turn into a nation of forced birthers, and that's not the United States I grew up in.

      •  well... yeah (0+ / 0-)

I of course was not including medical issues into that. I should have been more specific about that.

Just was trying to make the point that yes, abortions are not fun things that we should hope as a society are not needed. But outlawing women to choose to do it is not even close to the answer. Fixing the problems that generally lead to abortions are.

When I hear quotes like what was written in this diary, it makes me shake my head that there are people that think people get abortions as a goal. That women who get them want to get them.

The few people I know that have had them, have had them after going through much heartache and debating. It was not a fun decision.
