  •  Democrats being better than Republicans ... (2+ / 0-)

... sure, of course, but pushing for changes that in all likelihood will not pass in Congress is not equal to NOT working for the Democrats, imo. Why is that always assumed to be the case? Can't you be independent but caucus with the Democrats? And work and help them to win as well?

You can fight for your ideas as hard and as best as you know how to til it comes to the vote. If you really think the changes you pushed for have no chances, you always can still vote for the right (ie democrat's) side.

But here it's always as if the mere thought to push for "unrealistic" changes means that you are a lost case and it feels as if the ideas you have in mind get silenced or ridiculed.

I too believe that the changing demographics may be helpful towards more democratic and liberal causes, but I would not rely on that and wait for the demographic changes to have that effect.

Just because you live in a not so white citizenry, doesn't by default mean, that more democratic goals will be implemented by default (though one would hope).

Looking around the world the relationship between a non-white ethnicity and that country's democracy doesn't support that idea. Lot's of non-white, non-democratic natios around as well.

    •  I am not saying that (0+ / 0-)

you should not work for what you want. I am saying you should. I would personally like to see progressives show up at Democratic caucuses and nominate better candidates!

The problem with running for office as an independent is that it very rarely works. Two party politics is not my choice but it is what I have to work with.

As to changing demographics, you are right; they do not automatically mean more democratic goals will be implemented. But what a majority minority country does is mostly take away race as a way to divide the people. It's one of the plutocracy's mainstays. Divide the people by making them afraid of each other.

Nice to chat with you, mimi.
