    As a concerned parent, you read the fine print on the medications your kid gets for whatever condition he/she has and, lo and behold on line 166 you read that respiratory failure occurs in .000063 percent of cases, a minimal risk overall. Your kid starts coughing and you think, OMG, my kid's special, blow off the medication and hope for the best.
    Science works for the greater good and most of us think of themselves, and especially our children, as distinct from the greater populace, and undoubtedly we are wrong 99%+ of the time.
