    On the right, a one-word description is enough to secure compliance through fear: 'guns', 'gays', 'terrorists', 'Muslims', 'abortion', 'atheists', etc.

    On the left, a one- to three-sentence rhetorical flourish, vagueness and ambiguity included, is enough to secure compliance through a kind of linguistic orgasm.

    Obama understands that perfectly.

    The real problem is that people are far too attached to language in the political sphere -- a nation of suckers.

        If you're seeing personal insults where none are intended (including the "moron" insult you saw in another benign comment), then that's just the flip side of the point I was making.

        I suppose you may be interpreting obvious soft generalizations as hard generalizations, but that kind of linguistic victimization gets old.
