    My Dad also smoked for 50+ years and he used everything in his arsenal too, including Wellbutrin, the patch, counseling, and books. He's been smoke free for the better part of the last decade and I am absolutely certain he's still alive right now only because he was able to quit.

    It's hard, sometimes really hard, but it's doable, and when you can shift your thinking toward the benefit of quitting (vs. feeling deprived) it gets much easier. :-)

      I'm guessing that you are very relieved and happy that he quit.

      Your comment reminded me of the single most important factor that got me to quit -- finding the compelling motive. Mine is to see my son and his family at their new home 5,500 miles away. That means I'm going to save money and be smoke free for long distance air travel and as a houseguest. Definitely worth it.
