  •  I think that skepticism is called for. (4+ / 0-)

It is definitely a sine of progress that these people were feeling sufficient heat that they needed to "rebrand". However, I just finished reading an interview with Chambers on The Atlantic web site. It sounds pretty slippery to me. He really seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth.

I thought his original apology was more about himself than those he harmed (that's why I chose to comment about Ling, who clearly played a pivotal role instead).

He sounds like  a narcissist who was so certain of that he stood on righteous ground, and now he's caught in a landslide of reality he never expected. It's hard to breathe, much less keep your head up and thoughts logical when caught in an mudslide after all.

I hope that's exactly the case for him. If so, he might land in a distant valley where he can do no further harm.

In any event, it seems that he no longer sits atop of his high perch. This sort of stuff will demoralize the fundie haters, who I'm sure sent him PLENTY of hard earned cash over the years:

What parts of Exodus's teaching do you renounce?

What I renounce: the whole gay-to-straight process. That the goal is changing your sexual orientation, which we realized isn't something that happens. That that's what makes you acceptable to God. And that gay people couldn't ever be acceptable to God.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not. -- Me.
