  •  If we are playing identity politics we ... (12+ / 0-)

... really need to self-divide-and-conquer more effectively than this. There are, for instance, plenty of whites who could benefit from unionization, against whom an aggressively anti-union administration could turn these tools. There are whites who are members of liberal churches against whom an aggressively theocratic administration could turn these tools. There are whites who might, heaven forfend, marry someone of the "wrong" color or ethnic group against whom an aggressively racist administration could turn these tools.

In order to effectively self-divide-and-conquer with identity politics, you really need to give a lot more detail so that you can be pigeon-holed into a smaller group that can be tackled in its appropriate turn.

And all the while, we must avoid the historical example of an authoritarian administration that effectively used divide and conquer after seizing power in a de facto coup sanctioned be the national legislature under the misconception that absolute power could easily be taken back at some later time, since pointing out that example will open us up to charged of "Goodwin's Law".
