of the extent to which the heartland is antagonistic to the coasts. The states in the Mississippi River watershed don't appreciate being fly- over country and they don't appreciate being exploited by corrupt civic "leaders."
Volkswagen telling Tennessee that the workers need to be represented on the board are doing what the Democratic Party should have been doing.
We need to remember that Howard Dean, who announced to the people "you have the power," was "taken out" by the supporters of Gebhardt, the Missouri Mafia.
AIG was a Heartland company. The people who took down Lehman Brothers hailed from St. Louis. When Obama campaigned in St. Louis, he was signaling a willingness to take on Wall Street to advantage the heartland financiers. The stock market is increasingly inconsequential. What German industry knows is that people power is not hazardous to economic success.
Competition is a worthwhile concept. Problem is that in the U.S. competition in both the industrial and political realm has given way to limited monopolies. What kind of competition is it when the manufacturers of cars can't sell to individual buyers? What kind of competition is it when airlines have dedicated routes and gates at airports are dedicated to major carriers? What kind of competition is it when an Arabic TV network can't get access to the U.S. cable market? What kind of competition is it when the Democratic Party can't be bothered to field candidates in the red states and individuals can't run for office, unless they are sponsored?
Parts of the U.S are like a third world country, controlled by financial bosses, whose minions in the legislative bodies tailor the law to suit the bosses.
"Keeping government out of business" is a bad joke.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
