    •  WTF? (0+ / 0-)

That wasn't a troll comment unless I missed something. Yeah, you can't selectively edit out of a cable package, but what was wrong with the sentiment.

    •  oh HELL No ... biscuits and gravy (5+ / 0-)

has to involve at the very least some flavor.

Now if you are not willing to do scratch-made biscuits a la James Beard:

      Cream Biscuits

      5 tablespoons melted butter

2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting the surface

      1 tablespoon baking powder

      ½ teaspoon salt

      1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

      1 ½ cups heavy cream.

      1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Brush a baking sheet with a little melted butter. Sift 2 cups flour, the baking powder, salt and (if using) sugar into a large bowl. Fold in 1 ¼ cups cream. If the dough is not soft or easily handled, fold in the remaining 1/4 cup cream, little by little.

      2. Turn dough onto a floured surface, mound it into a ball and, using a rolling pin or your hands, press it to a thickness of about ¾ inch. Cut into rounds, 2 ½ inches in diameter. Gather dough scraps and continue to make rounds. Dip the top of each round in the remaining melted butter and arrange on the baking sheet. Bake until golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately. Makes about 9 biscuits. Adapted from “James Beard’s American Cookery.”

then at least go to the trouble of real biscuits. I like the ones in Barbecue Biscuits N Beans, and I love the ones Grady Spears makes with black pepper and little bitty tiny dices of longhorn cheddar (the sharp one).

Now for the gravy, if you're making enough for three people, you want 2 ounces of good ham fat, melted, and 2 ounces by weight of sifted all-purpose flour. You toast that flour in a dry cast-iron skillet until it's almond-colored, stir in the fat and cook until it starts to bubble around the edges. Now you put in a pint and a half of whole milk, a tablespoon of cracked black pepper, a quarter teaspoon of cayenne and a quarter teaspoon of New Mexico Red chile powder, half a teaspoon of salt and stand there whisking until it goes to gravy.

Pour the hot gravy over the hot biscuits. If you have fresh tomatoes and still-hot bacon or ham slices or fresh-cooked sausage, put 'em on the side. You can put any kind of eggs you like over the top, although I wouldn't go into hollandaise over biscuits and gravy, 'cause it's gilding the lily.

        but hell on diets.

Although it sounds a lot better than the bacon-sprinkled doughnut holes I met last fall (the bacon was under the glaze). It really didn't work as a combination.

hell on diets. Eat this for breakfast and you won't be hungry all day.

          1 4'' biscuit
          1 poached egg
          1 slice bacon
1 3/8'' thick slice from 4'' ripe beefsteak tomato

Split biscuit on plate. Lay bacon across split biscuit. Top bacon slice with tomato.  Top tomato with poached egg. Spoon on gravy to cover generously (3 Tbsp).

And you know what? there's nothing in there to violate an ADA diet.

      •  That's the most obnoxious recipe that this (0+ / 0-)

        Southern Bell has ever seen.

Give you a hint.  Start with Lily White flour and follow the recipe.  Don't even start the process if you don't have buttermilk in the house.

Start to finish, twenty minutes, to have biscuits in the oven in my house.   Don't forget to cook them at a high temperature, about 450 degrees.  Top with brushed butter just when done but before browned.

Butter one just out of the oven with butter, and add some fruit jam, or honey, and there is nothing closer to heaven.

        •  They don't sell Lily White where I live (0+ / 0-)

close enough to New Mexico to spit and hit it.

If I'm lucky I might find White Wings, from Pioneer Mills.
Mostly it's just store-brand AP, unless I want to spend $3 a pound.
