that Snowden's choice to go to Hong Kong was somewhat benignly "naive, unwise and worrisome"?

Maybe this seemingly smart guy misjudged the choices available to him, and maybe his motives were nefarious. There's much that we haven't yet been told. I don't yet trust the guy.

it would have been safer and more profitable for him to just leak it to the Chinese or some other foreign power rather than to the American people.

He's accused of telling US what OUR government is doing.  I understand and accept the need for classified material laws, but when they seem to be exploited consistently for the purpose of protecting the government from its own people rather than protecting us from foreign powers, I cry foul.

      •  Exactly. He disclosed to the American people. (6+ / 0-)

Treason means aiding the enemies of the United States. Snowden aided the people of the United States. Everyone who calls him a traitor is admitting that the government consider the people to be its enemy.

however Snowden's gift of classified info to the Chinese government could make him a traitor.

He could be a traitor AND be responsible for creating a broader national dialogue that results in changes to laws on these NSA practices.

Lots of gray shades here, I think.
