because so many have taken exception to comparing Snowden to someone setting themselves on fire as an act of protest.  In the US, I think it will have to get a bit worse before someone in the middle class, as Snowden is, will self-immolate.  Perhaps not so long for others in less fortunate circumstances, as the recent increase in suicides in the US might portend.  Usually it's hard to get the average American to take much notice of anything, until the electricity goes out.  Ed Snowden put his future, and his life on the line by going public with the evidence he has revealed.  He essentially kissed his ass goodbye when he did so.  How many hundreds of thousands in the employ of the NSA would even dare sticking their heads up?  Especially after seeing the treatment of others who tried to whistleblow within the system and now Snowden who went rogue on the company?  In that sense I think he is our VERSION of those other heroes, now icons who snuffed themselves in protest of some other state action.
