We left the herb garden and raspberry bramble at the old house intact when we moved out last fall, hoping the new owner would appreciate it. They'll be renting it out, so I guess not :-(

But this spring at the new house, it's been one gardening joy after another. We've discovered well-established lilacs, honeysuckle, deutzia (which is new to me), a very hidden rose bush, and two highly prolific mulberry trees within the overgrowth along our fenceline. The mulberries are in full fruit right now. We're all stained purple on our feet from the picking. You touch a branch and they rain on your head. The freezer is getting packed with berries to use through the summer.

Weathering Michigan's recessions since the '70s.
