Centuries ago when I was in college, we had some folks for McDonnell of Boeing drop by to demonstrate this system they were trying to sell to local law enforcement.  They were going to take the INS out of a B-52 and put it in the trunk of a police cars (in 1975, it filled the trunk).  Then the dispatch office would know where every car was at any moment and could dispatch officers or backup more efficiently.  They did admit that the system might need to be 're-calibrated' a couple of times during a shift as it seemed after a while the map would show the cars driving thru houses instead of down the street.  I don't think they sold the system, but now I guess it can be done even better with GPS.

a certain SAC base, I knew some (bored-to-tears) flightline cops who "calibrated" the radar guns used to detect speeding by following B-52s and KC-135s on final with said radars.

After that, a house would go down the road at over the base speed limit .... That's where I first learnt that a radar-enforced speed limit is only as good as the instruments and their end users.

When radar guns became more commonplace in the 1980s, a news article reported how a judge knew when the police had set up a trap near the McDonnell Douglas offices next to the St Louis airport. She'd get a bunch of engineers in her court contesting their tickets for all the ways that a radar gun can be inaccurate.  After listening to a couple of those, she began to routinely dismiss tickets when an engineer was involved.

involved field research on 4 x 10 hour shifts.  At that time the Fort Worth PD was using that schedule for their patrol officers.  We were visiting roll calls to pass out questionnaires, at one of these roll calls, one officer found out he'd been assigned speed patrol for the day.  He was NOT happy.  We heard him storm back to the supply room, slam the gun down on the counter to sign it out, walk over to the briefing table, and slam it down again.  That night were at the end of shift briefing, he walks in, storms back to the supply room and slam it down on the counter again.  I would not have wanted to be the citizen he wrote a ticked on, and I wondered if the gun could actually work reliably after that abuse...
