    •  Looking at the flightradar site (4+ / 0-)

According to that site, they are still in Vienna.

I have people actually objecting to the fact that I assumed that the US is behind this.  It's a no brainer.  They think that maybe France and Portugal just decided to force a plane carrying a head of state to emergency reroute and refused to allow critical refueling before a transatlantic flight just... because. Obama probably had nothing to do with it... oy.

      •  One of the articles I read, and I can't seem to (4+ / 0-)

dig it up right now, quoted the Bolivian foreign minister as saying the US state department had pushed France and Portugal into this. Big shock.
Embarrassing on so many levels.  How do you act like petulant children, ineffective bullies, and immature amateurs all at the same time?

        •  it looks more like the us flexing its muscles... (5+ / 0-)

to deliver a message to morales.  cross obama at your peril, obama will retaliate.

yeah, obama is acting like a petulant child, but, well, message delivered.

          •  I suppose they may have been beating their chests, (4+ / 0-)

but I think it's also possible they were just plain wrong.  They thought he was on the plane, and they stomped their feet.

            •  Huge worldwide surveillance system (4+ / 0-)

500,000 NSA contractors, I don't know how many employees  God only knows how many are in the CIA and contractors for them.  And they totally blow it.  Snowden wasn't on the plane.

I'm starting to agree with joe.  This is why they forced that plane to reroute and refused it's refueling in two countries.

Oh, and by the way, they refused the refueling without even asking how much fuel they had, so without any regard for their ability to find an emergency landing.

AP reports that Venezuela's foreign minister Elias Jaua has condemned the decision by France and Portugal to block the plane from its airspace. He claimed that changing a flight's route without checking on how much fuel was left in the plane, put Morales' life at risk.

Anyway, I think joe is speculating that this is the reason why they did it, just because he was even considering considering a Snowden asylum request (and didn't even have one yet).

This is what Morales said about the matter (earlier today while in Russia, I think).

If there were a request, of course we would be willing to debate and consider the idea.

I know that the empires have an espionage network and are against the so-called developing countries. And in particular, against those which are rich in natural resources.
