  •  Fuck Sensenbrenner! (4.00)
Conyers can have them at MY house!  Oh, wait....I'm in Texas.

Conyers should just hold them out on the steps of capitol hill then...I spent many an afternoon out there on the grass, smoking grass and talking politics when I was in high school ('course I'm sure that's not allowed anymore), have the damn "forums" OUTside -- oh, this just pisses me off.

Make a HUGE spectcle out of this....HUGE. That's the only way to go...

    •  Love it (4.00)
I love this.  What a fantastic photo op - holding a forum on the grass in front of the capital because Republicans are obstructing.  The media would have a field day.

...we'd need to remind everyone not to bring any bacl suitcases though...

      •  I agree. (4.00)
This is an example of a chess lesson my grandpa gave me once: "never force your opponent to do something you don't want him to do."

That's just what they've done.  Conyers will find a far more media savvy locale, and get increased attention.

        Lovely.

        •  Bravo to your grandpa (4.00)
A similar notion I always liked in chess was "always control the tempo".  ("Tempo" = being on the attack and forcing your opponent to respond to you so s/he can't control the direction of the game.)

The Republicans are making a HUGE mistake by overplaying their hand to this extent.

An outdoor hearing, at an announced time (just in case, you know, a few hundred thousand of us want to show up wearing I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK and BUSH LIED AND OUR SOLDIERS DIED shirts) would be quite nice.

We had the Schiavo mess.  The Repubs holding a gun to the head of the Senate rules.  This mess.  The DSM.  The towering debacle that the Iraq war has turned into.  One would think that the Republicans would have learned by now that when your gun is empty you don't reload and take aim at the other foot...

    •  What we need to do is find a private house (4.00)
here in DC with a nice big front yard and let them do it there.  Sorry to say that National Parks are off-limits for political activity by either party (that is a whole other can 'o worms).

But a nice private front yard... free speach amongst the people being oppressed by the evil majority what a wonderful public relations gift Sensenbrenner may have given us...  The medai would eat it up...

oh the outrage i feel right now...

      •  BrodyV -- ya out there buddy? (none)
Know anyone with a bigass yard??

      •  Yes! (4.00)
The corrupt Republican majority has let the mask slip completely from their faces... this is about denying and suppressing Americans who disagree with an oppresive majority in the pettiest way imaginable.

Imagine if the House Democrats went to a grand town hall meeting... and cited this abuse of power as the reason why... a great public relations coup, and a beacon of light on the truth of GOP abuse of power.

Somebody get Hannity his enlistment papers... its time!

        •  Front Lawn (none)
What about the congressional record? Doesn't this matter?
          •  From what I understand (none)
they don't get to put it on the official record anyway...

As always, I could be wrong though.

            •  C-SPAN is the post modern record (4.00)
I can order clips from C-Span a hell of a lot easier than I can find anything in the Official Congressional Record.

I just wish they would send a DVD which included all the camera angles.  The whole "court reporter" type stenographic record, while still official has little bearing on what historical researchers will be looking at in 50 years.

              •  I agree. (none)
While it won't get into the congressional record (unless somebody slips the transcripts in a "back door")  it WILL be in the open record of the MSM.  Also, by not being in the Capitol, anyone (which should be EVERYONE) that speaks will have the opportunity to slam the Sensenfuerer silly.
    •  They don't "own" the capitol steps. (4.00)
They may control room reservations, but the capitol steps/lawn is a public forum. Rent some chairs and a table, have conyers buy a gavel and conduct the hearing. Have some cameras for a feed, try to get C-Span, make a big deal out of the fact that they wouldn't let you have a room, and then make a big show of the fact that we are proceeding anyway, WITH OR WITHOUT 'permission' from the Republicans. What are they going to do? call the police and have conyers arrested?? They've tried before, but that won't go over at all.

PUH-leeze.  This, combined with last Friday, is SUCH an outrage. How can Pelosi be letting this happen? Letters demanding an apology is one thing, but this mess deserves a much sterner, symbolic, and unified response from the whole party, not just those on the judiciary committee.

    •  Yes, yes, yes! (4.00)
Conyers should have the next hearing right there on the Capitol steps, because the Republican chairman refuses to allow them a room. Can you imagine a photo op like that???

Oh my God, I almost have pity for how much the other Republican Senators will beat on Sensenbrenner for handing this photo-op to the Democrats, just in time for the session to begin.

Please let this happen. Any of Conyers' staff who's reading this, please recommend this course of action.

    •  Hold it in a CHURCH (4.00)
Surely there's a nice UCC or Unitarian church in DC which could be used as a venue.  What better site to shove the truth down the "Christian" Republicans' throats?  And let Sensenbrenner's jackbooted thugs march into a church.

    •  The weather should be fine... (4.00)
...hot and humid today and tomorrow. But 82F and sunny is the forecast for Thurs.

Reminds me of college when we would have lectures outside...

      •  Well, they blew this one... (none)
Need to have it in the main briefing room at the freakin' National Press Club!!!!

You want coverage, make it easy.

      •  The problem (none)
with holding it at the DNC is that it then runs the risk of being "spun" by Faux "News" and other MSM (if it's mentioned at all) as "partisan": "those traitorous Democrats poking their noses into the righteous work of our God-fearing President".

I agree: the steps of the Capitol would be much better. Hell, they hold Christian Rock festivals there...
