I took the news of James Gandolfini's death hard.  Not that I knew Gandolfini at all.  I didn't know him from Adam.

But I did know that Gandolfini played Tony Soprano, and I enjoyed wathcing Tony Soprano on TV.  (Perhaps not suprisingly, if I knew a Tony Soprano in real life, I would avoid him like the plague.)

And I missed seeing Tony Soprano.  So Gandolfini's death was sort of strange for me.  I didn't mourn Gandolfini one bit, but I missed and mourned the fiction that Gandolfini created.  Gandolfini was recently dead, but he was a nobody to me.  The great fiction that Gandolfini created was already dead many years, but I felt that loss all over again.
