I've shared your weather diaries on my facebook page. Most recently was when one of my friends who'd just moved to Indiana wrote on facebook, "OMG WHAT IS THIS DERECHO THING?" My friends found your diaries on the topic very informative and they appreciated the information.

    So here are my thoughts:

    1) Keep "condescending". You are skilled at taking complicated things and helping people make sense of them. Ever had a professor who SUCKED at doing that?

    2) Remember that your audience isn't only registered Kossacks who comment in your diaries and send you Kosmails. I've shared your diaries with friends before and I suspect that a lot of other Kossacks have as well. You may get feedback from your regulars here, but there is wider audience out there you don't interact with. When they read your diaries they are probably nervous and in need of a simple, straight-forward information.

    3) The politics at Daily Kos suck as much as they do everywhere else. I know from personal experience here that when people vehemently disagree with you in one domain, that bleeds over into apolitical, even community-building efforts. That doesn't have anything to do with you personally, but more with how politics has become a team sport that must always have winners and losers.

    4) Write about the things that you are passionate about. You will always be at your best when you write about something that means a lot to you. When I write for somebody else, or on an arbitrary deadline, I suck. Maybe that's just me.

    Anyway, T&R.
