  •  And our spooks wouldn't just make shit... (21+ / 0-)

    ...up?

To smear the guy? And provide fake evidence to add to the charges against him?

    Seriously.

Further, this guy's had YEARS to plan this, and he's an IT security expert. Does anyone think he'd leave his machines vulnerable to someone else?

If his machines were vulnerable, why wouldn't our guys just wipe them???

Further, does anyone believe he's carrying the crown jewels WITH HIM???

Man, people just do not think this stuff through.

Nice job with the smear-Snowden troll diary though...

    •  Why was he carrying 4 laptops? (3+ / 0-)

    •  This guy has 6 months experience (10+ / 0-)

He wouldn't ever get an interview with me.

He has been shown to be lying about a long list of his claims.

I have 40+ years of in-depth experience in this very same environment. I actually am a security expert and know the various levels of federal security requirements in detail. I've implemented secure networks, led many security audits, and have investigated security breaches.

Yet I'm sure that you'll simply assume that I'm siding with the government. And you'll assume that Snowden isn't the complete bullshit artist he is. His statements are just plain jaw-dropping nonsense.

And he's ruined his life over a sales presentation that he thought described a real secret NSA spy program.

He's been there for 3 months! Years of experience? Nonsense. His previous employers can account for maybe 9 months at most. The NSA and CIA network implementations aren't like the public Internet. It takes a long time to learn the basics of these complex systems and networks.

Snowden is a tragic fool. Probably a pathological liar. And he's already stated that he's "disillusioned" with the government. The business that vetted him and the security officers in charge will lose their careers over this. But Snowden loses everything for what amounts to nothing.

He is the one driving his fate, nobody else.

is in a complete uproar, and has charged this nobody who knows nothing with major crimes.  I see.

        •  Because they aren't sure (0+ / 0-)

They are scared because they aren't quite sure what he had.  He might have accidentally really had something of value.  Even just having and understanding the security on the laptops are valuable.

as we can get.  I know that isn't a popular opinion at this site right now, but that is the way I see it as well.  In some of the material it sounds like a desired end state being described, not a current practice.  But it can sometimes hard to tell.

would be all over Mr Snowden even without security experts having to tell us.

It's incredible watching the lengths people are going thru to defend this dude.  Everybody else but Snowden and Greenwald is either lying or trying to smear him.  The Chinese govt is just going to let someone with so much classified US info kust waltz out of their grip unscathed without getting every single piece of info they can get from him.

You actually have the stones to write this:

You do realize that the US does not have physical access to Snowden but the Chinese do right?  I think it's you that may not be thinking things thru.

the part where it was said that "they believe" the data on the laptops had been drained.  In other words, they have no idea; but if they can get others to believe it, Snowden looks bad.  What will they "believe" next in the campaign to smear Snowden, the success of which will do NOTHING to rehabilitate the NSA's activities and those who protect and further them?

Foreign government gets "national security refugee" with four laptops and doesn't vacuum every bit of data off them?

YOUR assertion that such a thing wouldn't happen is patently absurd.

        •  I didn't say that ... (0+ / 0-)

it "wouldn't" happen, nor did the sources say that it, in fact, actually "did" happen.  Guessumptions are not facts.  But unless each laptop was actually connected to the Internet, it's unlikely anything was gotten from them, and even if data was retrieved, Snowden's thumbdrive was what actually contained the important data, and they don't emit 1s and 0s into the air as they travel in someone's pocket (if, in fact, Snowden even had it on him and hadn't stashed it in a safety deposit box somewhere).
