    No one stayed home in 2010 thinking their votes were not needed.  On the contrary, turnout was sky high for that special election, rivaling general midterm turnout.

    So not that was not a risk.

    Nor is it a risk tomorrow based on polls.  Ordinary voters are largely unaware of these polls.  Only political junkies who are certain to vote pay attention to them.

      Logic always seems to dictate that the ones who are less likely to turn out, all other things being equal, are the people on the losing side rather than on the winning side, simply because it's demoralizing to the losers.

      I agree that the polls are likely to mean next to nothing to nearly all voters, but even forgetting that, the logic behind the voters who are so confident they are winning not voting because of good polls always strikes me as very, very flawed for my above reason.

        When you think your side is winning, you show up to vote.

        When you think your side is losing, you're dejected and more likely to stay home.
