    regardless of the doublespeak. Both civil rights and anti-Vietnam war movements had Christian moralists in the generalship and in the front ranks. An example: Bayard Rustin, a socialist antiwar, and labor and civil rights leader, said that all his activism was a result of his Quakerism. That kind of national religious leadership is gone. The same sects that said slavery and Jim Crow were splendid for inferior races and that coddled bombers of black churches, are now cited as the moral examples, now anti-women, and incapable of addressing rape in the military as they bless the troops to kill Muslims. Evidently their mission after losing on Vietnam and civil rights was to stop organized Christianity from ever again exerting a moral limitation on U.S. barbarism.
