  •  Ever watched a faith-based film? (12+ / 0-)

Or even one that is slamming you over the head with lessons and morals in a way that is way beyond a feel-good movie? Yick and always poorly done. Message takes priority over well-scripted, well-acted, intelligent stories. No surprises, no unexpected plot twists or endings.

This sounds like a losing venture from the get-go. Or maybe Rick's company will produce a small library of movies that will develop a right-wing nut cult-like following. Kind of like the Republican Party.

      with a message.

But I actually think this is a good thing, and healthy too.  The Christianist nuts like Rick Santorum are causing so much trouble right now precisely because they have not yet made the transition to cultural minority status.  Creating their own mini-Hollywood, speaking to themselves in their own language, and leaving the rest of us alone - to me, that's a step toward the inevitable, which is minority status within a much larger, healthier, vibrant nation.  The Christianists take their marbles and go home, and just talk to each other?  From my perspective, that's a win.

I don't want the Christianist evangelical fringe to go extinct - they are part of the cultural landscape that is America.  I just want them to be a sub-population and not delude themselves into thinking that they are the majority, or that they get to tell the rest of us who is an American, and who is not.  Or who can marry, and who cannot.  Or get in my business in any way.

Subcultures are fine.  Let's see white evangelical christians make that transition, and they will be a lot easier to stomach.

One good thing about all of this:
Suddenly, both Catholics and (gasp!) even Mormons are acceptable as human, and even people of God!
Who would ever have thought such a thing?
I guess it's true what they say about politics making for strange bedfellows...
(As it were....  Then again, who knows?  At this rate, in a few generations, even GLBT people might become kosher to the radical right.  And after that -- dare I even think it? --  [whispers]  maybe even women!)
