    I remember that special election well. I had been at college for a semester, and the political news in Maine was all bad. LePage and the legislature were embarrassing themselves daily and passing laws trying to bring Maine back to the dark ages. This special election convinced me that Mainers were paying attention to LePage's idiocy, and that Democrats would retake the legislature in November 2012. Of course, they did, and now the news from Maine is generally much better.

    This special election was like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for me.
