post-war period was mostly due to its being alone as a major manufacturer/exporter, that and self-sufficiency in oil.

The free market is not the solution, the free market is the problem.

Great Britain still had the oil fields of the MidEast & it's island didn't receive major damage. Yet they wilted in the post-war period.

Australia, Brazil, Argentina were all unscathed & they didn't have a gain in economics nearly to the level the USA did.
If the primary reason for the USs economic success was as a result of a vacuum then those & other nations should have gained immense wealth/power/industry as well.

It also ignores the short-lived vacuum of those two nations; within a decade Germany & Japan were back on their feet.
Yet the US's unparalleled successes in science, technology & economics continued for 30 years and placed the US flag on the moon.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

were major industrial countries before the war. I've lived in the US all my life and I remember when Honda cars were a novelty and Mercedes and BMWs were rare. The brief post-war "Golden Age" began to fade as Japan and Germany rebuilt. Do you remember the oil shock in '73 ?

and Brazil has been "the next great power waiting to happen" for over a century.

Regardless, the fact that all those other nations didn't achieve nearly as much as the US is rather the point.
The policies of New Deal economics allowed the USA to outpace all other nations.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
