  •  2014 Victorian state election (0+ / 0-)

The first draft maps of Victoria's long awaited and long overdue redistribution (redistricting) have been released and it isn't as bad news for the state Liberals as many were expecting.

The most important changes under the draft maps is that notionally Labor and the Nationals lose one seat each while the Liberals gain two extra seats.

Another very important change is Labor's hold on the seats in the Geelong and Ballarat areas is significantly weakened. In addition the Labor seats of Ballarat, Ripon and Monbulk under the new lines become notional Liberal seats.

This means if the Liberals' poll numbers continue to improve under Denis Napthine, the next election will be fought and won in Geelong and Ballarat where Labor's vote held up in the last election thanks to Labor having constantly pork barreled those electorates during their time in government.

Plus a whole bunch of Liberal and Labor seats have their margins weakened including Labor leader Daniel Andrews' electorate of Mulgrave which under the old lines had a 8.5% majority which is now whittled down to 2.5%.

The Republican party is now an extreme right-wing party that is owned by their billionaire campaign contributors. - Bernie Sanders
