    TN Republicans have a very long respected and very well earned reputation for moderation, and I think that this is just another example of it being the case.

      The really frothing right-wingers in the south tend to be converted Dixiecrats and their ideological descendants. They're less dominant in TN probably because the eastern third of the state has always been dominated by old-school Republicans since the Civil War when it supported the north.

      I think Haslam was the most moderate. But being the most  moderate Republican in Tennessee has about as much significance as being the sanest person in a sanitarium.

      Indiana Republicans had a reputation for moderation too. Now look at them.
