  •  Court a joke since BORK (1+ / 0-)

Ever since Reagan nominated Bork, the court has become a joke.

Ever since, GOP presidents have tried to re-nominate him.

Most of the time, they've succeeded.

We might have scored a victory if instead of the Anita Hill side-show, the Democrats had concentrated on Thomas' complete incompetence to be on the court, but when he could squirm his way through by smearing Hill, it was hard to subject him to another round of attack.

And while I have no doubt that Anita Hill was completely justified, I don't believe that that time period was ready to treat sexual harassment with the seriousness it deserves. I even wonder if we STILL are at that point, though we've gotten better.

And Thomas has carried a grudge ever since.

What separates us, divides us, and diminishes the human spirit.

    •  Anita Hill was the right call, but not well played (0+ / 0-)

Frankly letting a sexual predator onto the bench should not have happened.

Challenging him with Anita Hill was the right call to make. The execution of that challenge went horridly wrong, and we somehow got a sexual predator onto the SCOTUS.

As for competency... that's never been a bar to getting on the Court... so that challenge, while also a good one, would have gone nowhere.
