  •  I didn't say "dumb" woman...I said dumb decision (0+ / 0-)

first of all. And I am tired of the left making all decisions equal because it supports our view. Decisions have consequences. If one decides to have unprotected sex, the outcome is possible pregnancy because this is what our bodies were designed to do. To say that choosing to use protection and avoiding this consequence is the same as getting pregnant and having an abortion is lunacy. There was a diary here not long ago lamenting the fact that lack of gun control made life "cheap". Well, not using birth control and relying on abortion or other forms of pregnancy avoidance AFTER the fact also degrades life.  And there are lots of reason why people do or don't have babies but to equate them all as the same does women and our cause a disservice. Saying a woman had a abortion because she wanted a baby boy is not the same as saying she had one to stay alive.

My reply should have made that clear.

If one decides to have unprotected sex, the outcome is possible pregnancy because this is what our bodies were designed to do.
So one shouldn't do anything to mitigate the possibility of pregnancy if one doesn't wish to become pregnant?

(I assume you understand that "Plan B" does not cause abortions: it prevents a fertilized egg from being implanted in the uterus.)

If one decides to live in an unhealthy way, the outcome is possible ill health because that's how bodies are designed.  Would you criticize such a one when s/he takes steps to reverse course?  Of course not.

there are lots of reason why people do or don't have babies but to equate them all as the same does women and our cause a disservice
I didn't say all reasons are the same.  I do say they are irrelevant, because reproductive choices are not anyone's call but the woman making them.

And one thing family planning counselors can do is educate women who make ill-considered choices ... like having unprotected sex when pregnancy is not a desired outcome.

Sometimes the barrier proves less than effective.

Sometimes busy women forget to take those little pills, which in and of themselves are not 100% effective for all women.

And all those methods of birth control cost money, an increasingly dear commodity to working couples everywhere -- especially those who already have a family or are planning for one at some future date.

Lots of us have b/c "oops" and it's not because we aren't trying to keep from conceiving. The only really 100% effective method is abstinence. So, you go tell all those married men they can't have sex any longer unless they are ready to provide for yet another child -- even if they are trying to prevent pregnancy.

Most women who have abortions ALREADY have living children, you know, 61% as of 2011, and they are trying to keep from becoming irresponsible baby-making machines, as some seem to think we are.

Why do you think all women having abortions are careless about their birth control? Are you aware of the failure rate of each of the methods of contraception? NONE are 100% effective, not even sterilization.

Not to mention the women who WANT a child, but the ultrasound or genetic testing in mid- to late-pregnancy may show a fetal abnormality that some may choose not to carry to term. And some babies die in the womb. Crazy anti-abortionists want women to carry dead babies until their "due date." There is no due date -- the baby is dead and retaining a dead thing could cause sepsis and death in the perfectly fine woman. But in anti-abortion states with no late-term abortion, the woman must keep the dead thing inside her unless she spontaneously aborts.

Gross, huh? But that's what happened to a friend of mine in Texas whose doctor was afraid he would be charged with performing a late-term abortion if he removed the dead fetus. Idiot.

Supporting a woman's right to make her own decisions about her own body -- which is what Democrats used to believe, and I think it still is in the party platform -- is what it means to be pro-choice, no matter what the reason a woman has to terminate her pregnancy. And that is up to the individual woman and her doctor -- not a bunch of uninvolved busy bodies who won't be there to help the born children when they need it.

I thought we fought these fights already. Why do we keep having to argue over what was settled law? And why do most of the people sticking their noses where they don't belong happen to be men?

or herbs that speed up metabolism of the pill hormones, making it less effective as a contraceptive.

I don't know anyone outside of religious bigots who thinks that "sex is supposed to make babies."

Sex makes babies. It does and it's supposed to, although not everyone who has sex wants babies.
It's my sense that you wrote that from a place of sincerely believing that is true. But it's not true even from a biological perspective. If it was, then there would be no sex beyond child-bearing age.
Well, not using birth control and relying on abortion or other forms of pregnancy avoidance AFTER the fact also degrades life.
You might not be aware - but this convoluted statement reeks of entitlement and misogyny. "Other forms of pregnancy avoidance..." what can that mean? Since you already reference birth control in your opening sentence and plan B is birth control, you can only be referring to one thing, abortion.

Are you really pretending to be so dumb?

You follow that by saying "it degrades life." You are saying that women who choose abortion degrade life.

Let me clue you in - it's none of your gdamn business why or when someone chooses to prevent a pregnancy or why or when someone chooses to end a pregnancy.
