  •  I'm not in favor of this, because while stuff (7+ / 0-)

could be fixed, I'm not certain in this age of corporations and controlled media that the stuff that would be fixed would be every last thing that's progressive and for the benefit of people.

I would bet money that a Constitutional Convention would "fix" that lack of mentioning corporations with one of their first acts, giving corporations more rights than people.  The second act would be to do away with the First Amendment.  The third might be to mandate a particular religion, like Christianity, to be the guiding philosophy of all laws of this country.  The fourth might be enshrining discrimination such as anti-color and anti-gender and anti-GLBT as legally accepted in the country.  The fifth might be to clarify that anyone has the right to obtain and carry any weapons they choose, thereby removing those pesky restrictions against people buying automatic weapons, tanks, bombers and wmd's.  A sixth might be that any state can nullify any federal law they choose to, and can secede from the Union at any time.  A seventh might be something to take away other amendments like the right to a trial by jury, the right to be free from searches and seizures, and a whole host of other "rights" we depend upon in this country.  Maybe enshrine graft and corruption - if someone is a millionaire, they don't have to be subject to misdemeanor charges, or audits by the IRS, or maybe even have something where a set value is placed upon a life, such that if someone who's rich kills someone else, all they have to pay is a fine of some amount - for example $100K, and that's all the legal hassles they have.

There is no limit once one gets to a Constitutional Convention and I don't trust greedy Republicans and timid Democrats to defend our current Constitution, let alone construct something better.

That would be one path to fomenting violent revolution. They're well on their way already with their increasingly blatant support for the powerful micro-minority and espousal of cutting support for the most vulnerable among us.

See: The French Revolution. Add much better firepower.

I'm not saying this should happen. I'm saying a scenario like you've expressed would bring it closer by leaps and bounds.
The erosion of our rights must stop. It won't stop unless we make some noise.

Let's ask nicely first. Let's do that loudly and leave no doubt that we mean what we say.

Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal. - Martin Luther King, Jr.

    •  The premise of markos is that the left has a (0+ / 0-)

voting majority, if we can get our folks to the polls. What do you know that he doesn't?

And there's the small matter of "Ratification". Study up on that one and see if your position doesn't mature.

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.
