      much progress that the VRA was not needed, or at least the provisions they invalidated.

      I don't know where you are coming from, but frankly, I'm not understanding why you believe "nothing changing in 40 years" = today's Supreme Court ruling.

        Actually, the court ruled that we've made so much progress that the VRA was not needed, or at least the provisions they invalidated.
        The Court ruled that the criteria used to choose areas for pre-clearance were not Constitutional.  It made no judgement on whether or not the pre-clearance provision was still needed.

        For example:

        State sovereignty means that the federal government should not intrude on political decision-making of states, including, Roberts says, their election laws; equal sovereignty means that when it does, it should intrude equally—on all of the states to the same degree.
        There are plenty of people publishing the interpretation of the case that you have provided.  They range from ignorant people repeating what they have been told to blatant liars.  You should reconsider the credibility of whoever you got your information from.
