  •  Bubblehead, 40 weeks is 280 days. That is 7 months (1+ / 0-)

--not full term .  And there are other considerations, including birth defects that show up only later in the pregnancy--such as severe brain malformations.

These should be medical decisions--not decisions made by Republican men who have lurid ideas of women's moral character and women's bodies--i.e., "In case of legitimate rape her body shuts the whole thing down."

In the '90s the talk around the clinics where I was a volunteer escort was the number of malformations from pregnancies where the father was a vet of the first Iraq war.  It appeared that the depleted Uranium used in US weapons had contaminated the fathers' sperm.  No research was done of course. Because (1) Bush the first was president, and (2) how could the father's health possibly contribute to the fetus' development.  It is always the woman, isn't it?

Fiscal conservative: a Republican ready to spend $5 to save a dime--especially if that dime is helping a non-donor.

A woman wrote about her experience of having to abort at past Rick Perry's artificial cut-off:  My Abortion At 23 Weeks

Hope is a good thing--maybe the best of things--and no good thing ever dies.

    •  7 times 40 is 280, but (1+ / 0-)

If you divide 280 by 31 the answer is 9.03 or just over nine months, but anyway.

I've never been a fan of absolutes and I understand there could be circumstances beyond a 20 week cutoff. I'm not even saying I think 20 weeks is the appropriate cut off.

I'm asking about the plain abortion a woman would have simply because she thinks it's the best choice?

Like I said I don't believe in absolutes, I think of things on scales and I weigh them as you go. As I believe a fertilized egg at conception isn't a baby and believe a woman has the right to choose I also accept that at some point we are talking about a baby and aborting it should be based on more than whim.

I'm no expert but I think premature babies are living as early as 28 weeks these days. So my question was along the scale of development how many weeks do you feel are appropriate for the simple decision to abort a baby for nothing else but the choice of the woman?
