  •  Amazing how after over 200 years of progressive (5+ / 0-)

reform in expanding suffrage, ending slavery, giving women the right to vote and run for office, ending the poll tax and racial discrimination, fighting poverty, etc., there is a very strong element at the core of our politics that to this day continues to resist and try to roll back even the earliest of these reforms, and return us not merely to 1860, but to 1787, before we even had a constitution, if not before 1776, when we declared our independence and right to collective self-determination. These people will not be content until we're back to being a rigid, non-merit-based, not even virtue-based aristocracy, in which a very small minority of straight, white, rich, conservative, Christian men (and a few token women and blacks they allow in), basically run and own everything, and the rest of us have to jump to their bugle or else go to jail or just die.

This is precisely the sort of country that these people want to take us back to (which would actually be even more repressive than colonial America was). Do most Americans support this? I seriously doubt it. But they've been fooled into not understanding that this is what they'll get, if they keep on electing such people, not just in Texas, but Wisconsin, Michigan, North and South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and so on. We need to make voters understand what these people are really about, and what they're trying to do.

Hopefully, this filibuster and the ensuing chaos and rule-breaking will do that.
