  •  I've been watching what is going on in (9+ / 0-)

North Carolina, Wisconsin and other states where the GOP took power thanks to 2010 and gerrymandering.

What they are doing is truly horrific, including attacks on students', POC, etc, voting rights.

With the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, they're not wasting any time in going full steam ahead.

This is a small sample of how they're going after students.

And this piece by Rachel Maddow is an absolute must see. It gives the history of how 18 year olds won the vote and the immediate and unceasing efforts to deny our young people that Constitutional right.

For those who think attacks on voting rights only happens to "other people," the Republicans are going after our children's and grand children's right to vote with a vengeance.

It is absolutely crucial that we start communicating with our neighbors and even strangers in the check out lines, just what is going on.

We have to get people motivated and voting and that has to start now.

    •  that "other people" syndrome.... (5+ / 0-)

is happening to me right now.  I never saw the corporate effect I read about every day....until our contract was bid and won by a different company.  All of a sudden, our fulltimers have been cut to parttime, and my staff hours are regulated as if they were gold bars at fort knox.

And your point about the local level legislation is truly scary.  The stuff on the local level is cloaked in secrecy and small markets, and directly affects our lives with little to no time lag.

are going through that.  Are you in a "right to work" state by any chance?

What the Republicans are doing in states like Ohio, North Carolina, and Wisconsin are the blue print for what they will do everywhere they hold power, in towns or in Congress.

Last few years I've been tied up with taking care of the grand boys so their parents could work and go to school. That is easing up a bit as the grand boys get older so I may finally have the time to get more involved locally, as well as on the national level somehow.

Need to be able to do both, that is certain.

Thus, I bow against my will to Ray Kelly.

And even here it is sickening to hear some of the crap you hear all the time on the national level!

I think that is why it's so important to reach out to people locally as a means of going around them.

We can do a great deal of good by getting the word out as to what is going on, especially if we target that information to people's specific interests.

Far too often, people don't pay attention until things hit home, Climate Change for example.

If we can get the information out that shows how they will be affected by a certain policy by making it personal, all the better.

It hits home hard that way.
