  •  Late to the party today, Darn. (6+ / 0-)

All I could do at work is rec. Now I'm home, and I have something to say.

First of all, thanks Kirby, for having the courage to post this pro Obama post. On this site, in this time, that takes more courage then it should.

Second, I tip my hat to the gay couple who brought this case all the way to the supreme court. I cried my eyes out when I saw one of them propose to the other on national TV this AM. It will take another gay couple w/this courage to further the ruling today.

Specifically, it will take a gay couple to get a job offer in say, Alabama, when they were legally married in say, California. Then the right to reside in state to state, and BE married legally will come to the fore. That suit will be necessary to FINALLY finish this thing up.

Third, after watching Obama's response to this decision, after many other pro gay rights comments, not to mention his refusal to let the federal gov't defend DOMA, I am greatly cheered, once again, by this president, despite my disagreements w/him.

This simply WOULD NOT happen under any republican president. And frankly, I'm sick to death of having people dismiss the Democrats support of "social issues" like it's just a detail. "Social issues" describe the way most of us live every day.

Which is not to say there isn't huge room for improvement in the Democratic party. But today, Obama owns his share of this. Period.

"A typical vice of American politics is the avoidance of saying anything real on real issues." Theodore Roosevelt.
