  •  Now take the fight to the states (5+ / 0-)

It's a great day (particularly in contrast to yesterday's horror of gutting the Voting Rights Act), but now the fight has to be taken to the states.  Neither decision today did much of anything to overturn the rights of states to discriminate against LGBT couples and individuals - and what we saw happen in the Texas Senate last night should reinforce the importance of progressives taking their efforts to the local and state level.

But it is a great day - I am 62 and even 10 years ago, I would never have thought we would have come this far by now on marriage equality.  There's been a sea change in the nation, a generational change I guess, that I feel privileged to have lived long enough to see.

Nonetheless the hard work is only beginning - if we don't want to see the states roll back or refuse to extend equality, if we want equal access to elections for ALL citizens,  we MUST get progressive Democrats elected in state and local elections.
