From one of the morning programs on NPR, when they pitted Democratic women spokespersons v. their Republican counterparts, just before the 2012 election.  The Republican line - we women don't care about birth control or abortion.  We care about the economy and jobs, and Obama has been a failure but Romney was a successful businessmen and knows how to create jobs.

Somehow, though, Obama was able to get the majority of the women vote.

...a successful businessman. In reality, he was a scrap dealer.

Very few right-wing men understand - and very few women of all kinds do NOT understand - how inextricable the concept of reproductive autonomy is to economic freedom for women.

Kids are expensive - and women (who already make less than men, dominate the lower-paying jobs and are the majority of minimum-wage employees) shoulder the lioness' share of that financial cost. They also lose money faster due to unpaid maternity leave.

A woman who can control her pregnancies - eschew them altogether, or wait until she's good and ready to have her kids - is a woman who can go to school, learn a trade, MOVE without hindrance to get a better job, expend time demanding better pay and better work, and more easily leave a bad marriage.
