  •  Actually there was quite a large write up (0+ / 0-)

In Washington post during the discussion of not messing with retirement pay by offsetting with disability pay.

There was an example of a guy who got out of service with 40% and now is 100% disabled, not because of service related injury but because of normal aging ailment such as cardiac issues and diabetes...  I thought at the time that is just bs, he should not be assessed 100% from normal aging health issues.

First and foremost there should be no self certification, period want gov contracts set aside for SVDV then the government needs to freakin certify their eligibility.

Senator mccaskill has done a stellar job on this issue
Most set aside are ripe with fraud...multi million $ owners getting special treatment over other eligible business is BS

    •  It's not quite that simple, though (11+ / 0-)

My father had his first two heart attacks while on active duty.  He later had to go through quadruple heart bypass surgery.  The circulation in his legs, it turns out, was utterly wrecked because of the 300+ jumps he had done as a paratrooper in his twenties.

Now they don't permit that many jumps because they have learned it causes a crap ton of long term health issues to slam repeatedly into the ground at 35 miles an hour for years on end.

They couldn't give him his legs back - he was in a wheelchair by the time he was sixty.

Best they could do was pay for the wheelchair.
