    Well, that's why I specifically said "the current version" since I think Zimmerman said some inconsistent things before, perhaps embellishing his version of the story to make himself look less likely to be guilty.

    As for sitting up at the point when Zimmerman shot him, I do think that is possible: Trayvon on top, stops hitting when he sees the gun, and then Zimmerman either shoots him while still fully on the ground or maybe after sitting up.

      that's no longer self-defense. If the gun stopped the hitting, Zimmerman no longer had a fear of great bodily harm or death. Maybe, like the prosecuting attorney said, he shot Trayvon not because he needed to, but because he wanted to.
