  •  US Tech Workers Need to Organize (4+ / 0-)

I'm aware of the pathetic and lame organizations that already exist and I'm a member of one of them. They're so lame that I paid my membership dues and never got a single response from them about anything membership-related or any calls to action.  It's really very sad and lame.

What we need is a real, organized, powerful US IT worker lobby group to fight the steady increase of H1B's and to lobby tech businesses to find out what types of skills they're not finding in US workers and set up training with universities to graduate American workers with the skills they need.

[Terrorists] are a dime a dozen, they are all over the world and for every one we lock up there will be three to take his place. --Digby

it's almost all workers. Medical technicians type jobs seem to be all on visas, and skilled production workers that are above routine labor for example. ;I know someone that is a manager at one of these industrial production places and was lamenting that she might get SARS because the temporary workers they hired on 3 month visas kept going back and forth and bringing their exotic diseases with them. I've never heard of this 3 month visa but She kept saying it was some special law that 'obama signed' like that was what made it okay for conservatives to exploit people. She wasn't worried about paying these people minimum wage (because Americans didn't want the jobs she claimed because it couldn't pay the mortgage) and she wasn't worried that somehow the temp workers had to find an affordable place to live where that wage wouldn't pay a mortgage, but she was worried enough to catch a disease. Yeah well maybe that's the cost of health.
