    is pretty much foretold from the beginning. The protagonist is walking hand in hand with death from the first page...even his beloved is a pasty, pre-consumptive. (If I'm remember aright...it's been a while and my copy is packed up).  

    It didn't just come out of the blue for no other reason than to say 'life sucks; deal with it'.

    A weapon that is also a treasure is certain to be used. Hero for Hire
