    A classification (secret, top secret, etc.) is a legally binding status that is assigned by a designated authority.

    Classified information or materials being leaked doesn't magically remove the classification. Under US Army and DoD regulations (and LAW), classified material must be dealt with in a very specific and highly controlled manner.

    Absolutely nobody can arbitrarily decide for themselves the merits of the classification. Before the material can be treated differently, it must first be DE-classified by an approving authority.

    If classified material makes its way to an unclassified DOD computer, that computer is required to then be wiped clean.
