Knowing that we've engaged in cyber-attacks against Iran, allows us to better understand their posture towards us.  It is important to fully understand the nature of the hostilities when those brave warriors in Washington, start agitating for war.  A lack of knowledge by the public led us into Iraq.  Trust created Iran-Contra.  Trust led us to arm the rebels in Afghanistan.  You trust Obama.  But do you trust Rubio or Christie or Romney?  When the next Reagan comes, are you going to be happy that he is engaging in a secret war all across the world?

comment did I even mention Obama?

It always goes to this false meme that if I don't love every leak and every leaker, it's because I blindly trust Obama?

Obama has nothing to do with how I feel about this.

If we expect our government - whoever is in charge - to understand global threats, then we have to accept that some of the surveillance will be electronic.  We're in the digital age.

We have a duty to make sure what they do doesn't infringe on our privacy.

None of that has anything to do with using computer viruses to fuck up a madman's plans to get nuclear bombs.

Anyone here actually believe that there is NO place for secrecy at all?

Seems like it.  Seems like folks think any government secret is fair game for exposure.

Seems like that position is rather strident, as well as naive.

No one is talking about trusting the president with a ridiculous amount of power.  All I'm saying is that there is no place here for absolutism.  The government simply cannot keep us safe if they have to rely on survey responses from unbalanced leaders who have nukes.

      Some espionage is necessary.

I'm really stymied about how people who are saying "no surveillance EVAH!" are accusing me of accepting anything "without question" simply because I don't think every leak is a good leak.  It is you who accept without question that every bit of government business is fair game for leakers and every leaker is a saint.

Try some nuance on for a change.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. Barack Obama
