  •  Absolutely. We can perceive only what our senses (4+ / 0-)

allow us to see. Intelligence expands our perceptions but our built in limits also have an effect on what we can see.

As a side line I was reading something where it was posited that all civilizations are the result of species at the top of the food chain...they further posited that means meat eaters. I am not sure if I agree with this but the idea is intriguing. So maybe there is something to the energy part of why no alien visitors. Is there really any cheap energy without side effects or unexpected costs. Even to the energy that fuels life itself.

Everything is so interwoven and easy answers so often ignore the complexity in an effort to be able to understand anything... I love math but the way statistics is used is often by simplifying in order to make points.... then people run with that point, filling in blanks and finding what they want.

I am more into chaos theory. Or in my case I see it like a container full of gas atoms and molecules... Very complex interactions. In a broad way looking in on this microcosm we can see patterns and rules that are useful through the machines intelligence has created. If it works then we assume we know all... but do we? Or are we simply only able to see what our biology allows us to see?
