    •  Are you saying they aren't siblings? (5+ / 0-)

Ernie, the nice older brother who finds Bert to be exasperating but puts up with him anyway? Why do the reactionary bigots have such dirty minds?

      •  Best Friends (0+ / 0-)

Bert even has a twin brother named Bart and an Aunt Matilda.

I always thought they were both kids, until Bart showed up in a suit and a hat and said he was a salesman.  If he's a salesman he has to be an adult, which makes Bert an adult since they are twins.

Hopefully, Ernie is also an adult (although he's certainly more childish than Bert), because if he's not, well, that brings a whole other scenario to mind and if that occurs to the RWNJs, they will really go on the war path to shut down PBS.

I have not been able to find anything on Muppet Wiki or SS Wiki about how old any of the Muppets are supposed to be.  I figured the SS group were all under 12 (monsters and human muppets alike) and that the Muppets were mostly adults (except Robin & Scooter, I think they're teenagers).  I know Big Bird is supposed to be about 5 years old.  I consider Cookie Monster a toddler.  I'm guessing Bert & Ernie are actually adult buddies / roommates, rather than the 8-10 year olds I previously thought them to be.
