  •  Can You Make Some Suggestions? I've Been (10+ / 0-)

struggling with out of balance biota for several years, following some sinus antibiotics, exacerbated by irritation from food intolerances not recognized or misdiagnosed.

We think we've got all those tracked down now but I've still got a very limited diet due to dealing with that same section of upper GI. Meat and fat portions must be kept very modest, and absolutely nil for breakfast.

Any pointers greatly appreciated. I've not seen anything in stores or health food other than simply "probiotic" and one brand with a mention of vegetable digestion.

    •  Go vegan. I know it is extreme but it has helped (4+ / 0-)

both my daughter and myself eliminate health problems - not just control them, eliminate them.

We went vegan because we could no longer justify eating animals; the health improvement was an unexpected benefit.

Once you feel your digestion is working okay, you could slowly introduce meat or dairy - carefully!

    •  Try the probiotic Align (8+ / 0-)

I used it after I had my gallbladder surgery, and it worked really well. I could feel a huge difference when I stopped taking it.

      •  I'll add a couple of other brands (5+ / 0-)

Primal Defense is a pretty good product and has many varieties of bacteria. Latero Flora is also pretty good. Naturally fermented pickles are great also. Bubbies is a brand in the West. I got into fermenting last Fall and it's been great. Don't need anything more than glass canning jars.

Also, check out your intake of chlorinated water. Perhaps that may be putting you out of balance.

    •  I know that BC30 works very well. The pills found (0+ / 0-)

in Drug stores and Big Box are called Sustenex or Digestive Advantage.  They are bacterial spores so they don't get killed by stomach acid which kills 99% of each serving of the other Lactobacillius probiotics. BC30 is also found as an addition to many foods since it withstands a lot of heat in baking, etc.  You probably need to feed your normal, commensal gut bacteria with the right kind of fiber too. I think that a resistant fiber that you can't directly digest but your colon bacteria can is really important. Inulin containg fiber is found in Jeruselem Artichokes and is that kind of fiber. Also a commercial fiber preparation called Sunfiber (mixes clear and clean in liquid) is a resistant starch that the gut bacteria break down into short chain fatty acids that are the favorite energy source for the cells (colonocytes) that line the lower gut.  Since 70% of all the cells in your immune system are in the tissue just outside your intestinal wall, a happy and healthy gut translates into a strong immune system.

I'd tip you but they cut off my tip box. The TSA would put Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad on the no-fly list.
